Circleg Wins Gold at Cybathlon

In November 2020, Circleg competed in the Cybathlon Global Edition — an international competition organized by ETH Zurich that challenges teams to develop assistive technologies for everyday use. In the prosthetic leg race, pilot Andre Frei completed the full parcours with the Circleg Zero flawlessly, finishing faster than all competing teams to claim first place.

The result validated a core principle behind Circleg's product development: that a purely mechanical prosthetic leg can reliably support everyday tasks such as climbing stairs, avoiding obstacles, and sitting down or standing up.

About the Competition

Cybathlon brings together teams from universities, companies, and NGOs, each paired with a person with a disability, to demonstrate the real-world functionality of their assistive technologies. In the prosthetic leg race, pilots wearing transfemoral prostheses complete a series of timed tasks designed to simulate daily life challenges. A total of 51 teams from 20 countries participated in the 2020 edition, which was held simultaneously across multiple locations due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Circleg Zero

The Circleg Zero, the prosthetic system used at Cybathlon, represents a significant step in Circleg's development. Fully adjustable to different body sizes, it integrates all core functionalities of the future product while meeting the structural requirements of a clinical prosthetic system. It was the only purely mechanical prosthesis competing in the race.
